Vista download

Is it possible to use the virtual drive mounting system from MS to mount the Vista iso download in XP and install it on another partition from there? Thanks.

Yes, they say it is possible, but I haven't gotten it to work. Daemon tools, alcohol 120, stuff like that. I get a black box when I run setup.exe for vista and goes away and then nothing. -- Robert Firth

I have not gotten it to work, I use Nero Image Drive or Daemon Tools preferrably. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta "Gaoler" wrote in message

Thanks Andre. I was hoping it would work because that was how I was able to load 5308 from the DVD.

Does anyone have any tricks up their sleeve for downloading Vista? Each time I try the MS DLM I get a network error correction. I then resorted to trying the link to use my own DLM and it simply cycles until it times out. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Order the dvd. The Vista download page on microsoft.com has a red-letter message warning the the servers are swamped and requesting users order the dvd.

since i have download the Windows Vista ISO image and still have a copy of it even though i don't really need it anymore since i got the DVD as well. i guess i could send a copy of it to some people. but reember you are on your own for the activation keys.

the file I downloaded is useless, I cannot find a way to install it. When I click it, it opens up winrar and all I can extract from the over 3 gig file is a 135k readme file. What gives?

You need to burn the image to a DVD or mount it with a program such as Daemon Tools.

I suspect you copied the file you downloaded to a dvd. That is not the same as burning an .iso image to a dvd. Andre has posted the instructions for doing this 4329 times in the last five days, so you should be able to find one of these posts and follow the instructions.

possibly a bad download itself. Did you check the file for accuracy? Like, MD5 verification, that sort of thing?
